Sixteen years ago today I was 9 days past my due date and just waiting and waiting and…  Today, I’m planning a Sweet 16 birthday party for my daughter this Friday.  Co-ed which scares the heck out of me.  I have to reach back into my own long ago memories and remind myself what it was like to be a teen.

As the “Sunrise, Sunset” song plays in my head, I look at the moments firmly imprinted on my mind of those every day, ordinary things that somehow stood out.  And I revisit that day, that moment, that tear, that smile, and wonder how time could pass so quickly.

I’m blessed to have a smart, truly beautiful daughter who is a well balanced, confident, typical teenager.  As much as I sometimes wonder if I was/am a good mom, by all accounts when I look at her I have my answer.

So, go hug your children today, whatever age, because they make life wonderful, don’t they?

This minor (not so minor in my life) holiday celebrates the glory of the cookie.  Get at least one cookie consumption on your schedule and partake of this celebration of the cookie.  Imagine life without them.  Not very yummy.

Your Taste Buds Schedule
8:00 AM Breakfast – The oatmeal raisin cookie has fruit and grain.  The healthy way to indulge yourself and still feel good about what you’re eating.

This weekend, My Kids’ Cookies is participating in Bainbridge IslandIf You Give A Mouse A Cookie Public Library’s first annual Edible Book Festival.

We’re baking up our version of “If You Give A Mouse A My Kids’ Cookie“.  We had loads of fun trying out this cake and a friend’s 3 little boys were my taste testers.  Who got the ear, who got the foot, who got the head?  These were things they all had to negotiate.  Entrance fee donations will be given to Helpline House.

On the next rainy day weekend, pull out your children’s favorite story and bake up a version of it.  They can be creative and make dessert for the family at the same time.

P5170684Last Friday, a group of 10 women baked close to 300 corn muffins for the Soup Kitchen which was offered in downtown Winslow the following evening.  Within minutes, the assembly line was organized and on a roll as everyone picked a task then got to work.  With the local television station, BITV, recording our evening, we made quick work of our chore.

P5170682After a record time clean up of my commercial kitchen, the remaining volunteers got to sip champagne and enjoy some savory appetizers and sweet cookies while we told stories, got to know each other a bit better and enjoyed some new artwork hanging on my shops walls.  By opening my kitchen to this fundraiser (which was pulled together with donations from many locals and local businesses), I helped with an event that benefited hundreds in our community.  I was happy to be involved.
